So, this post took me a lot longer to write than I intended it to. Not because I couldn’t come up with the content, but because I got pulled into more than a few Youtube holes and had to work hard to get myself back into a productive mindset. Without further ado, these are my favorite drone related Youtube channels.
Some of them relate to very specific niches of drones, and others are only partially related to drones. No matter what, I enjoy the videos that these channels put out and highly recommend subscribing to each one of them.
Ken Heron
Yes, Heron, like the bird. This guy is a photographer and he’s pretty funny. He plays off of the fact that his name is bird and his logo is a heron carrying a camera. He does a lot of drone related videos and seems to fly all over the place. While there are a lot of people out there that post informational videos (myself included), he always manages to do it with a comedic flair.
When he posted a video on whether (and how) you can fly your drone at night, he included these cut scenes of him reading a letter from the FAA while sitting on the roof of a moving car. It was fantastic. We all know that the legal stuff can be a bit boring at times and reading the FAA’s response letter to a legal question while sitting on a moving car is a great way to add some levity to the situation.
I highly recommend that you check out his channel. You won’t regret it.
Gadget Inspector
This is not a completely drone related Youtube channel, but has a lot of drone content on it. One of my favorite things about this channel is the guy that runs it has an awesome voice. It’s like a dream radio voice and makes you want to keep watching. I’ve also had the chance to speak with the gadget inspector himself and he’s a super down to earth guy that just really enjoys drones. It shows in his videos.
Aside from that, as you can probably guess from the name, a lot of the videos are reviews. But not just drone reviews, there are actually a decent amount tutorial videos on drone software as well as how to capture better footage. If you’re in the market for some new gear, definitely check this channel out before you buy. I’m betting that the gadget inspector has a review on what you’re looking for.
Johnny FPV
I’ve never personally done any real FPV flying but man it always looks like so much fun. If you’ve never watched good FPV flying, this channel might make your head explode. At least half of the things that this guy has captured from a drone don’t even look real. And I get it, a lot can be done through good editing of footage, but I’m always sort of mesmerized when I open up this channel and watch a few videos. You won’t regret spending a few minutes taking a look. Or maybe you will because a “few minutes” accidentally turned into an hour.
Droner Tech
This guy had some real drone chops. I love watching his videos because he owns a successful Los Angeles based production company that has been able to incorporate drones. He provides some really great information about the business side of things, including how to price your drone work, which is always an issue (especially for new drone pilots or business owners).
Another thing I appreciate about his videos is the brevity. You know what I mean. We’ve all turned on a Youtube video that we thought would be interesting, only to realize that the first 5 minutes are just filler and don’t really get to the point. You mindlessly hit the fast forward button to get to the meat. Not on this channel. While he has some content that requires longer videos, most of his stuff comes in at around 5 minutes and is entertaining but also packs a punch. Highly recommend this one if you need some quality information on starting a drone-related business.
51 Drones
This is another one of my favorites. This channel provides enough variety that you don’t feel like you’re always getting the same thing. Sometimes the videos are hand-on, other times they are more educational, but they’re always worth it. The segment of this channel that I’ve really taken to is the review videos, which cover each product or service in depth.
If you’ve made it this far and this article was helpful to you, I put out new content all the time and would love to be invited into your inbox.
